PRESS RELEASE
PSD can transform administrative reorganization into a division
of Romania in influence spheres for party "barons"
URR warns that modifying the administrative structure of Romania could
turn into a division of the territory according to economical interests
of the central and local PSD lead.
Discussing this subject before solving the serious problems related to
the complete corruption of some administrative structures managed by PSD
heads can create the legalisation of their unlimited and unwanted influence.
On the table will be not the 8 development regions, but Oprisan region,
Mischie, Tarau, Iacubov and, unfortunately, others also.
Before involving all regions in discussing the issue of regionalisation,
which is mandatory for EU integration, the State Secretary Mihai David
already made public that the number of regions will be 8, just as that
of economical regions, but also the fact that further changes can come
up related to the districts making up the regions. Dividing the territory
in the 8 economical development regions hasn't yet proven its efficiency,
in spite of the programs under discussion with EU representatives.
We understand the resistance to change of Nastase government ministers,
but we want to draw your attention to the fact that neither the number
or the structure of current regions isn’t by far the best solution.
If we will discuss in a realistic manner about development opportunities
and not only about messing EU money, then there are too few elements connecting
Bihor to Bistrita-Nasaud (region 6), Vaslui and Suceava (region 1), Arges
and Ialomita (region 3), let alone Buzau and Constanta (region 2).
The debate issued to all civil society has to refer to all elements that
will define this decision, respecting crieria no longer related to financial
and political interests of the temporarry leading party.
