Date: 03.05.2003 PRESS RELEASEOvernight Concocted MayorsThe Union for the Reconstruction of Romania - URR considers immoral the way the PSD parliamentarians achieve their norms regarding legislative initiatives. Thus, they propose to set up new villages in which the prefects of the governing party are to denominate their political clientele, taking advantage of the fact that there will be no other elections organized during the year before the regular ones.
By this scheme, PSD uses the public funds - which are to be heavily allocated to the new developed villages - for its election campain. It is not enough that now the present PSD mayors are being allocated much bigger funds than those of other parties and that PSD is offering huge bonuses to the mayors migrating to the state party. Nowadays, the members of the government are tempted to skip the election mechanism and to stack new mayors.
The Union for the Reconstruction of Romania - URR asks Adrian Nastase's government to abandon these dirty practices and to distribute in a transparent and equitable way the funds which are now at the disposal of the administration he is controlling. We expect these funds to improve the level of life within viilages, without their inhabitants being forced to join the state party.
