Date: 03.25.2003 PRESS RELEASEThe Born Dead Anti-Corruption PackageThe Union for the Reconstruction of Romania - URR is foreseeing that PSD has proved his flippancy by dealing the way that it did with the censor inflection that is menacing the Anti-corruption Parquet by postponing the next week's debates and offering them in change the afternoon's hours. Not only PSD is disagreeing with the live broadcast of the debates, which it would be quite normal for such an important issue, but by programming it to a very late hour the possibility of wide media rebounds is practically annulled.
The PSD intention of mineralizing the importance of the censor inflection and of presenting its possible success as one of those who are against the battle with corruption is hiding serious deficiencies of the legislative Parquet. URR is stating that the current legislation is rather incoherent and incomplete and would sooner give the corruption an illegal alibi than it would destroy. This fact is proved by the developing of a group who will supervise the practicability of the Anticorruption Parquet within PSD, through which the governing party is trying to limit the effects on its own dignitaries of the new laws.
Beneath the "grand flag" of the battle against corruption under the influence of which the PSD parliamentarians will honor the imperative demand of the party of "in line" voting there is nothing else but the fear of not loosing the government protection. The PSD dignitaries do need the protective wing of the government no matter the legislation they are being forced to adopt, even if this would make them to dress up a little bit their profitable business with the state. That is because, as long as the Nastase regime is staying in power, any anticorruption legislation is dead and buried.
