Date: 04.23.2003 PRESS RELEASESome more equals than the othersThe Union for the Reconstruction of Romania - URR is considering the attempt of the district attorney of the PNA of intimidating the mass-media as inadmissible. The accusation of corruption casted on the whole mass-media in general, without mentioning a name or without bringing any proves is quite unfair and immoral, much more for a prosecutor whose only job is to accuse only when he can prove the guilt.
We are considering even more serious the attempt of the district attorney of passing the corruption issue over to the media due to the fact that throughout time they have presented numerous cases of corruption, very real and very well documented ones, which weren't appealed by any of the prosecutors. We are thinking that the behavior of the district attorney quite vile; he declared he knew concrete cases of corrupted journalists, but in the same time he "reassured" them by ensuring he would not send any of them to be judged. For this attempt to intimidate we are asking for the immediate resignation of mister Amariei.
The Union for the Reconstruction of Romania - URR is remarking serious malfunctions in the prosecutors' activity, starting with their clear PNA partisan activity and ending with the famous appeals in annulment of the district attorney of Romania, who is attacking in a bustle the authority of the judges' decisions favourising some of the most suspicious interests. The same malefic attitude of disregarding law and its judges was revealed by the assistant district attorney of the Parquet of the Supreme Court of Justice, Despina Mihai, who declared she "did not understand" the decision of the Appeal Court of Bucharest by which the Parquet was forced to make public information regarding the activity of pursuing people.
Cosmin Alexandru, President The Union for the Reconstruction of Romania - URR
