Date: 05.15.2003 PRESS RELEASEA New Political Approach Concerning the Hungarian Minority RelationsThe Union for the Reconstruction of Romania - URR has launched in a press conference on Thursday, the 15th of May, some proposals regarding the relations developed between the majority and the Hungarian minority to a normality level. These proposals start from the idea that we can not reach our common economical and social objectives but by living in a society that has surpassed the stages of divisional or ethnical rivalries.
We are stating that the nationalism should lose that essential role it holds upon the Romanian politics. The developing of welfare, of a more civilized society which can influence for the better the development of every man or woman is assuming the giving up all kind of demagogy, including nationalistic, and find pragmatic solutions for every problem.
So we think it is quite necessary that along the declarative support of all principles and European values linked to the national minorities one should add the proposing of concrete solutions for the concrete problems the Hungarian minority is facing, solutions that will lead to a better companionship.
Among these solutions we name: the establishment of a Hungarian State-Owned University, building a highway from Oradea - Cluj-Napoca - Targu-Mures - Brasov - Bucuresti to Constanta, the decentralization of the administration and the significat growth of taxes and fees which are remaining on a local level (minimum 50 %), the equal access in every state institution - including military ones – regardless of the ethnic origin, the stoppage of foreign investors discrimination, especially the Hungarian investors the allocation of funds towards ONGs that scope mainly the promotion of each culture's minority, the substantial improvement of the educational process, especially maters like History and Civic Education, thus contributing to a better reciprocal understanding.
As a sign of URR's opening and transparency and of a new approach we are offering, starting today, access to our site in Hungarian too, at www.urr.ro/hu.
