Date: 05.29.2003 PRESS RELEASEThe Declaration of PSD belongings, between arrogance and fearThe Union for the Reconstruction of Romania - URR is finding quite degrading the manner in which the government is treating the Romanian citizens, comparing it to parents that would never by a toy to their children unless they cry enough. We are hoping that the Romanians will reject the PSD attempts to turn them into a people of beggars, no matter if we refer to their political rights or to their means of surviving.
We cannot believe in a government that starts with the "an attempt can't harm" motto, especially when the attempt has as goal turning the citizens into stupid people. The way in which the PSD has tried to avoid any declaration of dignitaries' belongings, reacting only to the strong society's and opposition's protests is quite cynical.
The exact declaration of belongings will only harm the ones that didn't take the minimal effort of making it lost, registered to the family name or in same foreign accounts and this only because they see themselves so definitely forwarded to power that nothing can touch them. So, The Union for the Reconstruction of Romania - URR is considering much more as a disqualification the vengeful proposition, destined to intimidate the PSD parliamentarians as this control mean should be applied to all citizens, following the communist "illicit" pattern. The Union for the Reconstruction of Romania - URR is stating that citizens have the right to know which are the income and belonging taxes paid by the dignitaries and their families, so their declarations can be confronted with the reality and that the conflict of interest should only be expanded on those fourth grade dignitaries relatives. We also think that dignitaries should be forced to declare their art collections as well as the gifts that are crossing the 50 Euro amount, not the 300 Euro one; likewise, the reglementation of the belongings declarations should include clear penalties for those that are purloining.
Cosmin Alexandru, President The Union for the Reconstruction of Romania - URR
