Date: 06.04.2003 PRESS RELEASEGovernment Paid CriminalsThe Union for the Reconstruction of Romania - URR is thinking that the Adrian Nastase government should assume the responsibility for the serious crimes made by clerks who are his subordinates against the fundamental rights of the human being. Likewise, it has to assume the fact that the beatings and even the tortures of prisons and of the police, the police's and the prosecutors' abuses in instrumenting cases post Romania, according to the appraisals of the profile international organizations in the African countries row. The governing party is at least guilty for all losses, either of image either material the systematic lost processes of Romania in Strasbourg because of the abuses committed in Romania in the last years, as well as the many ones committed before 1996.
We think it is inadmissible that the government takes no administrative measurement against the guards or the police men that commit abuses against the human rights, some of which being murder; even the district attorneys that are committing abuses should be punished by the government because they are now against all European standards subordinates of the Ministry of Justice. We think it is a shameful and absurd way the manner in which the government members are using the innocent until proven guilty concept. Any possible criminal answers in front of the Justice using his citizen quality, but the possible criminals that have a subordinate position of the government should answer administratively as well, in the virtue of the responsibilities their position involve.
The Union for the Reconstruction of Romania - URR is demanding the Nastase government an exhaustive situation of all measures taken in all cases of abuses committed by the guards, police men or district attorneys, inclusively the ones seized by the mass-media or by organizations that are defending the human rights. We demand the government to publicly explain why this list does not contain almost anything and why it tolerates in its subordination proven criminals.
Cosmin Alexandru, President The Union for the Reconstruction of Romania - URR
