Date: 07.21.2003 PRESS RELEASEMore Inquiring Instead of PardoningThe Union for the Reconstruction of Romania - URR is thinking that the president Iliescu is abdicating from his role of all Romanian representatives when he speaks of the pardoning of Miron Cozma. Thus he would take again side of those that are committing infractions in Romania. Such a decision would seriously affect the majority or Romanians, that is, all that wish to be able to walk on the streets in safe, free of the risk to be beaten to death in the applauses of the nostalgic communists.
A possible pardoning of Miron Cozma is equal to the annulment of all the Romanian society has earned as a result of the 1989 Revolution. This would mean turning back to being animals, to the bat law and to lynching in public.
Not only that we are opposing to the pardoning of a criminal that had made a huge evil to Romania, but we are also asking for the inquiring of the chiefs of Police that allowed him to go forward towards Bucharest during the first pitmen action of 1999, as well as the cross examination of all policemen and SRI officers that took part in the first pitmen actions. Likewise, we demand the questioning of all the other syndicate leaders that were Miron Cozma's right arm on committing the fact he had been accused of.
We think that pardoning and clemency, either official or not, are not to be justified when speaking of men able to destroy the whole social order in the virtue of some personal interests. Likewise, we hope that the Romanian institutions will sometimes be sufficiently independent to be able to condemn those that manipulated the pitmen that are truly the initiating agents and the truly beneficiary of the pitmen actions.
