February 24th, 2004 Half of Step Forward
The Union for the Reconstruction of Romania - URR is considering that PSD' s intention of cutting down the electoral threshold for the local elections to 3% from 5% as one more proof of the difficulties the Parliament parties created in their relation with the European Union, including the attempt of adopting this profoundly un-democratically measure.
The re-discussion of the EU-adherence political criteria forced the PSD to reconsider its totalitarian reflexes of preventing the citizens to getting organized politically according to the Christian - democratic principle of subsidiary, a wide-spread principle within the UE state members.
Unfortunately, this last moment intention is, once again, just half the step towards the right solution that would be to eliminate any electoral threshold for the local elections.
The political competition should be open to change and progress; it shouldn't be closed and opaque, serving only the interests of the elected ones, just as this unnatural alliance of the power with the Parliamentarian opposition has proved.
The Union for the Reconstruction of Romania - URR is for maintaining
the threshold of 5% for the parliamentarian elections and for eliminating
all electoral limitations for the local ones.
